Webinar: Implementation of the CPR and DoPCs: Effects on LCA and the EPD International Programme 28 May, 2026

In this webinar, we break down how the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the introduction of Declarations of Performance and Conformity (DoPCs) impact Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the International EPD System. We also explore the role of Ecodesign and how PEF connects to EPDs in practice.

Agenda:
Ecodesign:
Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Product Environmental Footprint (PEF): single-score overview.
Examples and case studies.

International EPD System:
Overview of the International EPD System.
Aligning EPDs with the CPR: scope and manufacturer obligations.
Understanding DoPCs: required content, harmonised standards, and CE marking Implications for LCA and the International EPD System.

Summary

Part IV

1) What is the “digital by design” EPD compiler described in the talk?
A fully automated digital tool that supports digitized LCA/EPD data flows.

2) What problem does the EPD compiler reduce?
It reduces human error by taking more steps out of manual handling.

3) How does the ecosystem help keep data up to date?
It supports workflows that help ensure newer dataset versions (e.g., EcoInvent) are used rather than outdated datasets.

4) How can the EPD data connect to DPP systems?
The compiler can connect to voluntary DPPs (Digital Product Passports) and prepare for upcoming mandatory DPP requirements referenced under ESPR/UPR.

5) Who is expected to drive mandatory DPP requirements in the future?
The talk says the manufacturer will be the driver, not the program operator/notified body.

6) What does CPR stand for and why is it important?
CPR (Construction Products Regulation) is the EU legal framework enabling the free movement of construction products within the EU.

7) When does CPR 2024 become applicable?
The talk states CPR 2024 is valid from 2026.

8) How will the EPD concept change under CPR 2024?
It transitions toward a harmonized Declaration of Performance-related context (referred to as DOPC/UPC in the talk), with new product-family rules.

9) Does EPD become obsolete when the new regime starts?
No—EPDs are described as continuing to be valid during the transition period, with product-family-by-product-family rollout.

10) What is the difference between “what” and “how” in the harmonized rules?
“Harmonized European Standard (HEM)” covers what to do, “CPCR” covers how the calculations must be performed.

11) How does the timeline for mandatory reporting roll out?
It starts with specific product families (anticipated from 2027, ramping through 2030 to broader coverage).
