Dieter De Lathauwer is Senior Policy Advisor at FOD VVVL / SPF SPSC, specialising in construction products and environmental policy. He has chaired CEN/TC 350 (the European standardisation committee on sustainability of construction works) since 2021 and leads its work on sustainability standards for the built environment.
With nearly 25 years’ experience in national and EU construction policy, Dieter has:
• coordinated Belgium’s position on environmental aspects of the Construction Products Regulation (CPR),
• served on EU expert groups (Dangerous Substances, CPR Acquis Steering Group, Commission Expert Group on Sustainability),
• been the initiator and coordinator of the Belgian EPD program (B-EPD).

Dieter has a background in industrial construction engineering, product certification, and quality auditing, and specialises in environmental impact assessment, indoor air quality, EPDs and LCA. He drafted two royal decrees on environmental claims/product declarations and indoor-air emission limits, and he initiated and coordinates the Belgian EPD programme.

Leonardo supports the deployment of ArcelorMittal’s product sustainability and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) strategy, helping business and R&D teams address complex environmental footprint challenges across different markets and applications. His work includes capacity building, methodological development, advanced environmental modelling, and technical support for EPD programmes worldwide. 

With more than 20 years of experience in environmental management and sustainability, Leonardo has worked in areas including EPDs, circular economy, supplier sustainability, climate change metrics, water management, and environmental governance. He actively contributes to industry and scientific forums related to sustainability, environmental assessment, and sustainable construction. 

At the LCA Community Event, Leonardo will present on Data Variability and Comparability in LCA and EPDs for steel products, sharing practical insights into how harmonisation is essential, but it should remain connected to what industrial data can realistically support.

Maria is an LCA Engineer at Enperas, which provides an LCA Quadrant Tool—a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution—as well as LCA consultancy services. Enperas simplifies the LCA market in Europe and supports manufacturing businesses in developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), particularly in the building materials and chemicals sectors. 

Maria holds an MSc in Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management (SINReM), completed through the Erasmus Mundus programme. Her expertise includes Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), the circular economy, end-of-life and recycling processes, and raw materials management.

Lorien is an R&D Engineer at Orbix, where she focuses on the valorization of stainless steel slag. Her work covers quality optimization, carbonatation, circularity and sustainability, including the development and industrialization of innovative technologies for slag valorization and carbonatation. Before joining Orbix, Lorien worked as an R&D Process Engineer focusing on process optimization, product development and sustainability calculations according to the GHG Protocol. She holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering Technology, where her research focused on circularity and industrializing circular solutions.

Orbix is owner of the patented Carbstone® technology that converts industrial steel slag and CO2 into strong, carbon-negative building materials. It took many years to develop and industrialize this innovative carbonatation technology. Therefore, Lorien will present  how LCA and EPD’s can help assess and communicate the environmental benefits of the circular solutions.
