Webinar: Implementation of the CPR and DoPCs: Effects on LCA and the EPD International Programme 28 May, 2026

In this webinar, we break down how the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the introduction of Declarations of Performance and Conformity (DoPCs) impact Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the International EPD System. We also explore the role of Ecodesign and how PEF connects to EPDs in practice.

Agenda:
Ecodesign:
Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Product Environmental Footprint (PEF): single-score overview.
Examples and case studies.

International EPD System:
Overview of the International EPD System.
Aligning EPDs with the CPR: scope and manufacturer obligations.
Understanding DoPCs: required content, harmonised standards, and CE marking Implications for LCA and the International EPD System.

Summary

Part III

1) What is the International EPD System?
It’s the global program run by EPD International, providing a system for developing EPDs.

2) Who operates the International EPD System?
EPD International AB is the originator of the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and today one of the world’s largest, most well-established, and well-governed EPD programme operators.

3) What does EPD stand for, and what is an EPD?
An EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a standardized, third-party verified document containing lifecycle assessment (LCA) data for a product/service.

4) Is an EPD an ecolabel that “grades” products as greener or worse?
No—EPDs declare LCA results using standardized rules, they do not explicitly judge whether something is “better”

5) What standards framework does the EPD system follow?
It uses ISO-driven requirements and EPD-specific standards (including EPD EN15804, referenced as revised in the webinar).

6) What is the typical process to develop and publish an EPD?
Use a product category rule (PCR) to conduct the assessment, compile the EPD in a digital/PDF format, have it independently verified, then register and publish it through the program.

7) What is a PCR (Product Category Rule) in the EPD process?
It’s the “cookbook” rules that specify how the LCA/EPD must be conducted so results are comparable.

8) Why are EPDs important for decarbonizing buildings?
Because embodied carbon can represent about 40–50% of a building’s lifecycle emissions, and EPDs provide usable product-level data to report and reduce it.

9) How do EPDs connect to EU building requirements and the shift toward DoPC?
The webinar explains that, in the EU, EPD requirements are transitioning into a Declaration of Performance and Conformity context, aligning with broader regulatory implementation.

10) How does an EPD support trade and competitiveness?
EPDs can be used for compliance and market access, improve cross-border acceptance of sustainability information, and support differentiation in tenders.
