Webinar: Implementation of the CPR and DoPCs: Effects on LCA and the EPD International Programme 28 May, 2026

In this webinar, we break down how the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the introduction of Declarations of Performance and Conformity (DoPCs) impact Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the International EPD System. We also explore the role of Ecodesign and how PEF connects to EPDs in practice.

Agenda:
Ecodesign:
Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Product Environmental Footprint (PEF): single-score overview.
Examples and case studies.

International EPD System:
Overview of the International EPD System.
Aligning EPDs with the CPR: scope and manufacturer obligations.
Understanding DoPCs: required content, harmonised standards, and CE marking Implications for LCA and the International EPD System.

Summary

Part I

1) What is Luc Plancke from Enperas presenting in this webinar?
Luc presents ecodesign using three linked parts: LCA introduction, Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) including single score, and practical use cases.

2) What does “ecodesign” mean in the context of this talk?
It means using life cycle-based environmental assessment to improve products across their full lifecycle (not just one metric).

3) What is an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)?
An LCA evaluates environmental impacts across the full product life cycle, including manufacturing, use, and end-of-life.

4) Which standards or framework does the presentation reference for LCA?
It references the ISO 14044 series and the EN 15804+A2 approach with 19 impact categories.

5) How does LCA calculate environmental footprint across 19 impact categories?
It inventories lifecycle stages (emissions), links flows to environmental data records (e.g., Ecoinvent or EPD-registered data), then characterizes results into the 19 impact categories to assess footprint.

6) What is the difference between older “fewer categories” and today’s 19-category approach?
Since 2019 more impact categories were added, aligning methods with programs such as the PEF program, resulting in broader coverage beyond just climate (carbon) footprint.

7) Why is “single score” important for Ecodesign?
Single score helps decision-making for Ecodesign by making comparisons easier—especially when improvements in one impact category can cause burden shifting in others.

8) What does the talk say about where most environmental impact comes from?
In many product cases, the raw materials stage contributes 75% or more of the total impact.

9) How can EPD-related requirements connect to LCA work?
The session notes aligning EPD approaches with international program needs and construction regulation requirements, which affects how LCA/EPD information is prepared and used.

10) What do you mean by “use cases” in this context?
They are examples showing how the approach (LCA + footprint + single scoring + EPD roadmap inputs) can be applied to real product/environmental assessment workflows.
