R&D Safari Tour organized by Stebo

Luc Plancke, CEO and Founder of Enperas, joined the R&D Safari - Inspiration Tour for Makers on 19 March, organized by Stebo in Limburg, Belgium.

Information about Stebo and the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme

Stebo is a non-profit organization that bridges policy and society in housing, energy, entrepreneurship, and work. It supports communities in these areas with a strong focus on regional development.

The R&D Safari is a pilot action of x-Inno Radar, the Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE Programme project that investigates how the deployment of soft skills can leverage the industrial transition in a non-metropolitan context.

Luc boarded the VIP bus with other participants and visited pioneers in circular construction and innovative building technology in Limburg.

Luc Plancke, CEO and Founder of Enperas, at on-site events, 2026.

The tour focused on knowledge sharing for pioneers in circular construction and building innovation, including:

  • CO₂‑driven building materials
  • Circular roof systems
  • Integrated solar facades
  • 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, and prototyping tools

Impact of innovation on Limburg’s construction sector

The R&D Safari explored how innovation is reshaping construction in Limburg, with insights from industry leaders and site visits showcasing circular and digital solutions.

Ir. Chris Leinders (Head of Education, Construction cluster) and architect Ruben Braeken opened the day by outlining the sector’s challenges and opportunities. Leinders framed the circular transition for regional builders, while Braeken presented Mosard (Modular Open System for Architectural Design) - an open, modular system linked to a digital component library and platform that enables assembly-based building: flexible, reusable, and future‑proof.

Building with CO₂ - Bjorn Gubbels, CEO of Masterbloc, demonstrated the Carbstone® process developed with Orbix, which converts CO₂ and residual industrial streams (waste slag from Aperam) into sustainable building materials. The approach reduces CO₂ emissions, valorizes industrial waste flows, and strengthens the circular economy.

BossCover Circular - Lennert Schreurs, Innovation Manager at Tectum Group, introduced RoofYou - the world’s first fully reusable flat roof. The rollable, 100% circular roof gives coverings a second life, enables up to 50% long‑term cost savings, and makes circularity scalable across the construction sector.

T2 Campus visit & building materials with added value - Roald Swerts (SyntraPXL, InnovatHor) guided participants through the T2 Campus, an education and innovation hub focused on engineering and construction technology.

At SOLTECH, CEO Bas Van de Kreeke presented “building materials with a plus”: converting solar panels into active façade, roof, and art elements. SOLTECH’s House of Brands-ISSOL (architectural BIPV) and Glassiled (LED‑integrated communicative facades) - was highlighted, along with the TransisThor project (with LUCA School of Arts) demonstrating the fusion of architecture, art, and renewable energy.

The tour underscored a clear message: modular design, circular materials, and integrated energy systems are accelerating the region’s path to a more resilient, sustainable built environment.
