Webinar: Implementation of the CPR and DoPCs: Effects on LCA and the EPD International Programme 28 May, 2026

In this webinar, we break down how the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the introduction of Declarations of Performance and Conformity (DoPCs) impact Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and the International EPD System. We also explore the role of Ecodesign and how PEF connects to EPDs in practice.

Agenda:
Ecodesign:
Introduction to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
Product Environmental Footprint (PEF): single-score overview.
Examples and case studies.

International EPD System:
Overview of the International EPD System.
Aligning EPDs with the CPR: scope and manufacturer obligations.
Understanding DoPCs: required content, harmonised standards, and CE marking Implications for LCA and the International EPD System.

Summary

Part II

1) What is the PEF single score and how is it expressed?
It is an abstract single score measured in millipoints.

2) Why is the PEF single score calibrating this way?
Each impact category is normalized against the average human environmental footprint (Earth reference year 2014).

3) What does a single score of “1 point” mean in practice?
It represents an annual footprint comparable to one person on Earth.

4) How can the Enperas' LCA Quadrant Tool use the single score for Ecodesign decisions?
It can model impact reductions (e.g., comparing scenarios) and helps manage trade-offs across categories.

5) What is the “Double Materiality check” mentioned in the webinar?
A check that shows which impacts contribute most to the product’s overall environmental performance.

6) How does this support sustainability reporting?
It provides KPIs linked to the most relevant environmental parameters, so reporting isn’t limited to climate change.

7) What role does LCA play beyond footprinting?
It supports multiple regulatory and market needs, including items like carbon border adjustment mechanisms and assessing potential cost impacts.

8) How do building-related EPD requirements connect to this work?
The webinar references the EPD approach being implemented so building materials have LCA/EPD information available before building permission.

9) How can the dominant impact categories differ by product type?
They shift by product and process—for example, raw materials dominate for some, while production steps dominate for others.

10) What are examples of different “life cycle stage” dominance?
For petrochemical/plastics, impacts tend to center on resource/feedstock, for concrete, cement-related inputs are major, for ceramic bricks, kiln/production dominates, for glasswool, factory/process dominates.
