The Interreg SMARAGD project is part of the Interreg Meuse–Rhine (NL–BE–DE) programme and is co‑funded by the European Union.
SMARAGD is a digital platform that helps companies adopt sustainable practices through smart technologies. It offers tools for self‑assessment, benchmarking, networking, and training, with a focus on SMEs in the textiles, plastics, and advanced materials sectors. The platform includes digital tools for eco‑design, benchmarking and accessible resources for sustainable product design and circular economy practices.
The project targets key challenges faced by manufacturing companies in the Meuse–Rhine region, particularly SMEs, as they navigate rapid technological change, evolving regulations, and workforce shifts. SMARAGD helps companies remain competitive amid advances such as digitalization and artificial intelligence, the European Green Deal’s sustainability requirements, and a growing shortage of skilled workers due to demographic trends.
SMARAGD provides practical, cross‑border support to help companies adapt their strategies and overcome these challenges. This includes implementing digital technologies to optimize production and developing sustainable materials.
Technology Maturity Assessment: In‑depth evaluations and needs‑and‑gaps analysis to help companies create targeted action plans.
Digital Transition Support: Assistance implementing digital tools to improve processes, reduce resource use, and lower production costs.
