"Introduction to Carbon Footprint Regulations"

Gilles Vanvolsem, Managing Director of the Green Building Council of Belgium, opened the event and introduced all upcoming Carbon Footprint Regulations, highlighting Belgium’s regulatory complexity across its three regions (Brussels, Wallonia and Flanders) for the implementation of European Directives and regulations.

Among other topics, the presentation highlighted Belgium’s pioneering role on embodied carbon. The Totem tool, a joint initiative of the three regions since 2011, enables life cycle assessment using Belgian materials and products, accounting for embodied carbon and offering a broader environmental score to cover the full environmental impact.

At Enperas we were very happy that Gilles introduced all the LCA and EPD acronyms and we could move forward with the presentation of Aliplast’s LCA-ecodesign efforts, the 6 B-EPDs published and the results of the 8 upcoming B-EPDs.

The Green Building Council of Belgium brings together stakeholders across the construction and real estate value chain to create a common language, provide clarity, and guide the sector’s transition to a more sustainable future.

"Sustainable Built Expertise"

She also introduced, Aluloop, Aliplast’s take back scheme to recycle Aluminium windows and presented Aliplast’s environmental product solutions obtained by the entanglement of Cradle2Cardle with LCA with the simple market communication that all your aluminium windows of today will be used as raw materials for future windows.

Founded in 1984, Aliplast Aluminium Systems Belgium is a leading international developer and manufacturer of aluminium systems for windows, doors, sliding systems and curtain façades. The company is known for product innovation, thoughtful design, technical expertise and high quality.

For transparent environmental performance, Aliplast uses Enperas’ LCA Quadrant software to conduct Life Cycle Assessments and produce Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), publishing verified EPDs for Belgium and across the EU.
